A Society Fractured (P8)
Devious Deadeyed Mercenary
When not actively preparing for the next assignment in the alchemy lab, Nikola is often found either in the Reach’s tavern or at a local brothel substituting one vice for another. Nikola may never be free of his need to kill, but at least the need can be dulled with the many distractions an adventurer can afford.

Nikola has no love for his homeland. Even before the questionable circumstances surrounding his parents’ deaths, Cheliax was never the ideal home. Dominated by the House of Thrune, people of the port city of Westcrown suffer nightly oppression in the form of roaming Shadowbeasts on the hunt for rebels. The city was on the verge of rebellion and the Bharbos wanted no part of it. Nikola’s father, a city guardsman, was reportedly lost to rebels in the weeks prior to the revival of the opera, The Six Trials of Lazarod. Family and friends suspected murderous cultists. Soon after the opera’s closure his apothecary mother was lost as well. Official word blames rebels, but witnesses swear in private that she was forcibly taken by large figures in grotesque black plate mail.
With no source of income and 4 younger siblings, Nikola fell in with the rebellion. Thievery and sabotage payed well, but murder paid much more and came surprisingly easy to Nikola. Calling on his father’s instruction with crossbows and his mother’s tutelage on medicinal herbs, he became one of the rebellions go to hit-men. Nikola gave all of the gold earned from contracts to his brother Danil, in hopes of one day opening a trading post in the city of Kintargo far from Thrune’s oppressive influence.
Some years later, with his siblings safely established in their new home, Nikola wanted a new life. He tired of the rebellion, his obligation to support Danil was fulfilled, Nikola desired a life of his own but remained addicted to the hunt. He left Cheliax behind.
