Cole was born to master artisan Peter Delaney and his elven wife Adele. No one knows where Adele came from or when she met Peter, but she died of mysterious means when Cole was a toddler. Peter was distraught after Adele’s death and had trouble even looking at Cole as he was a constant reminder of the loss. Haunted by the vision of Adele when looking upon Cole, Peter put his son up for adoption. Traveling merchant friends intervened and took in Cole as one of their own. Cole doesn’t remember his early childhood, and has only known the road.
Years after joining the merchants, and acquiring a taste for afternoon tea, one of the magical objects being transported the caravan exploded; seemingly killing Cole in the process. He was in fact, just mostly dead; on the border between life and death. Where most people are generally alone on the border, Cole was not. There was…something else there with him, he couldn’t quite describe what it was. It seemed to smile, then meld into Cole. When Cole woke up, weeks later, sleeping beside him was a very large cat. This was the first meeting of Rigby and his future summoner. Together they began studying the ins and outs of the arcane arts.
Cole’s seniors and mentors in the caravan would frequently talk about Samuel Ferrum, a noble of some renown, in glowing terms. After many long travels the caravan finally made it back home. Hearing tales of Samuel and subsequently seeing the merchant fleet filled Cole with awe. When the opportunity arouse, he joined Samuel’s newest venture: a guild of adventures. Cole was ready to make a name for himself.
